FAQ
Q: How many nails per shingle are used?
A: Four nails per shingle every time.
Q: I have a simple gable roof, should there be more ventilation at the top?
A: If your soffit (the underside of your roof’s eave) is properly vented then yes, adding ridge ventilation is a helpful method of providing your roof with even airflow which will add years to the life of your shingles.
Q: Shouldn’t my shingles be installed by hand-driving all the nails?
A: Although hand-driving is an age-old proven method of quality installation, no, because the air-nail guns are calibrated daily to ensure the depth and pressure is perfect for proper installation of your shingles. Hand-driving a roof will cause the project to last much longer than normal and roofing projects are loud and somewhat disruptive to normal home life. That is why a roofing company who is getting the job completed quickly and efficiently is definitely part of what a consumer should be looking for in choosing a quality contractor.
Q: If we have 30 year Architectural shingles installed on our home they will last for thirty years right?
A: Maybe, but most likely not; in our climate, the greater Charlotte, Lake Norman, and Catawba Valley area, asphalt shingles generally last only half to two-thirds of the manufacturer’s limited warranty, so 30 year Architectural shingles last anywhere from 15 – 25 years depending on the amount of direct sunlight and weather conditions which a roof is exposed. 20 or 25 year shingles last from 10 to 15 years as a generality.
